Business.Finance supports operators to secure one of the latest best selling utes with workable, low rate financing, structured to their specific needs. Funding which is individually sourced from across the vast motor vehicle lending market to ensure the right lender and the best rate is secured and terms and conditions negotiated to suit the individual objectives of the operation. Funding that will work as hard for the operation as their new commercial vehicle.
So which vehicles are the top sellers? For anyone that follows the monthly sales reports or even takes a look around work sites or in traffic, the answer is probably quite clear – the Ford Ranger and the Toyota HiLux. For calendar year 2023, in the VFACTS sales figures released by the FCAI, the Ranger took top place on the annual podium by 2,000 more sales than HiLux.
While these two models continue to dominate the market, they are not the only vehicles in the leading 10 suitable for commercial operations. In fact, the entire top ten includes commercials and SUVs, not one passenger model made it into the leading sales results. This is a first for the auto industry as is the record of total sales made in 2023, beating the previous record.
For operators looking to purchase new vehicles, the latest sales information from the FCAI may provide direction as to what commercials to consider.
FCAI 2023 Vehicle Sales Report
As mentioned, the FCAI report that 2023 was a record sales year in the auto sector with unprecedented figures achieves. The FCAI’s Tony Weber said that the annual result highlights the competitive make-up of the auto market as buyers have many choices.
Looking at the December monthly figures, even with temporary full expensing ending months earlier on 30 June, sales were up 12% on December the previous year. The FCAI reports Toyota as continuing as leading brand on sales followed by Ford and Mazda.
A key trend highlighted by Mr Weber is the continuing move to SUVs and light commercials rather than for passenger vehicles. These two markets captured 78% of sales last year and comprise all spots in the top ten models.
Sales of EVs, both battery-electric and other variants, continue to rise and now the total of all types comprises 16% of all sales in the auto market.
Top Selling Utes Dominate Leader Board
The total sales include those to private and to commercial and government buyers. With cab chassis models holding appeal for both recreational and workhorse purposes, it’s not surprising to see these models dominate the leading models in overall sales.
Ranger posted over a 33% YOY increase to come out on top. HiLux sales were down 5% but not enough to tip this iconic vehicle off the leader board, coming in just 2,000 vehicles below its Ford rival. With its powerful 3 litre turbo diesel and rugged styling, the Isuzu D-Max posted a 28% increase in sales to round out the sales podium for 2023.
The next of the best-sellers was a selection of SUVs, also great options for many commercial operations across many industries. While sales were down by 15%, the RAV4 still remains popular with buyers and made fourth position. MG’s budget-pricing is clearly appealing to buyers with a 30% uptick in ZS sales to place it fifth.
The Y Model from Tesla makes sixth place overall and in a turn-up for records, was the best-seller in the private only buyer sales results. Mitsubishi’s versatile Outlander SUV came in next followed by Mazda’s mid-sized SUV – CX5 and then Hyundai’s Tucson. Toyota’s rugged workhorse, Prado rounded out the leading ten and adds yet another vehicle suitable to many working environments to the leading sellers.
Updated with this intel, buyers can now start planning their purchase with comparing features and pricing and comparing funding options and interest rates.
