The awards organisers note that their judges will also be looking at those aspects. Looking for vehicles that offer maximum value and can handle double duty – the work demands and the family and leisure duties.
The KGM SsangYong Musso is the model that is defending its 2024 win in this category. Other contenders are the LDV T60, JAC T9, and the Mitsubishi Triton.
The under $100,000 price tag category is also highly popular for buyers wanting that all-purpose ute but with an elevated level of comfort, tech, powertrain and ride. And of course, powerful off-road and towing capabilities. This category looks like it will be fiercely contested with the two best-sellers – Ford’s Ranger and Toyota’s HiLux MHEV headlining the list of contenders. Also up for this gong are the Isuzu D-Max, Mitsubishi Triton, BYD Shark 6, Toyota LandCruiser and the GMW Canon Alpha.
The under $150,000 price tag category is new to the awards this year and according to organisers, is a nod to the market demand for vehicles with even greater space, capability and power. Buyers that need greater towing capabilities, more comfort and style in say, a statement ute. Judges will be looking at the capabilities and style as well as practicality and the technology.
There are only three contenders for this award, the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado and the Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster. Note that the RAM 1500 that has topped sales charts and would have been included except that the new model has not arrived in time for the judging deadline so is not included.
